In 2001 after i figured some issues with my control units in my car and no possibility of reading error codes (my vehicles have been produced before 1990 and obd came in 1996…). So i decided to look around for solutions etc.
I started to modify the maps inside the units to see how they work, which took a while, but finally i managed to change the programming of my ECU and TCU. But it still lacked the ability to give me error codes.
So finally by Dec. 2001 i started to work on my own idea with a couple of atmega MCU’s and some tutorials and books about electronics and engines. And as my father is an electrical engineer i had some background help as well!
By end of 2002 the first running prototype was sitting in my car and i was quite happy.
About a year later, it was 2003 i modified a 1966 mini cooper with a couple friends where we decided to change the injection and put my second generation ECU in it.
Since i lost the interest into this project as the cars have been running and no need for it. But in 2015 i slowly got back into it and since 2017 i have a running ECU in my Volvo V40 2002 and 2004.
I will update my project page sometimes when i think i’m happy with what i build. so far this is only a hobby page, therefore could take a while until i write something here…
cheers,
christian
